Some of Bessie Smith recordings were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame such as "St. Louis Blues" and "Empty Bed Blues." Bessie Smith sounds great on vinyl where you can really hear the power behind her voice.

Since 1944 the Riverside Hotel has provided lodging for traveling musicians. It was home to some. Before the building served African Americans of the Delta as the G.T. Thomas Hospital. Blues singer Bessie Smith died here in 1937 from injuries sustained in a car accident while traveling to Clarkdale for a performance.
Bessie Smith was very infleunced and made much money when she began with Columbia's Records. She became really known around many places for her beautiful voice. She had to consider drinking less because she was doing a very good job for herself although the drinking became heavier as she grew older she was doing something very diffrent for her life for someone to grow in poverty to growing to be a wonderful well known singer.
